2014 WOMEN'S TEAMS: Twenty teams will participate. China is qualified as the host country; as are the top three finishing teams from the 2013 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Championship: USA (gold), Estonia (silver) and Spain (bronze); and two of the top three finishing teams from the 2013 FIBA 3x3 World Tour: Slovenia (gold),and Venezuela (bronze). The 14 additional nations qualified based on their respective national federation 3x3 ranking and included Andorra; Belgium; Brazil; Czech Republic; Egypt; Germany; Guam; Hungary; Indonesia; Netherlands; Romania; Syria; Taiwan; and Thailand.

EVENT DESCRIPTION: The basketball competition at the Youth Olympic Games is a 3-on-3 format organized by the International Olympic Committee and FIBA. The 2014 Youth Olympic Games is expected to include 20 men's teams and 20 women's teams, as well as a Shootout for women and a Dunk Contest for men. Each team is comprised of four players, and athletes eligible for this competition must have been born between Jan. 1, 1996 and Dec. 31, 1997.

USA BASKETBALL 3X3 U18 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT: USA Basketball hosted May 30 - June 1 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., the 2014 USA Basketball 3x3 U18 National Championship. The winning women's 3x3 U18 team was named the 2014 U.S. Youth Olympic Women’s Basketball Team that will take part in the 3x3 basketball competition at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. All team nominations are subject to approval by the United States Olympic Committee.

EVENT HISTORY: 2010 was the inaugual Youth Olympic Games. The event is scheduled to be held every four years (2014, 2018, etc.). The 2010 USA women's team, which featured Briyona Canty, Andraya Carter, Amber Henson and Kiah Stokes, finished with a 6-1 record and in possession of the bronze medal after being edged by Australia 25-23 in the semifinals.
